Rationale
Higher education is the next step in education. To enable our young learners to succeed it is necessary to equip them with a robust skills set and can do attitude to help them unlock the doors to a positive destination in the working world.

Lochgelly High School has established relationships with St Andrews University, Napier University, the University of Abertay and Herriot Watt University enables us to provide workshops, twilight sessions and residential nights away which gives pupil a can do attitude that they can be a success at University or College.

First Chances aims to equip pupils with the skills necessary to achieve their full potential during their time in education, as well as provide them with a range of information on further and higher education which will allow them to make informed decisions about their future. There is a tailored programme of workshops, tutoring, project work, e-mentoring and summer schools which are offered to pupils to ensure they are supported at each stage of their educational journey.

Reach helps pupils who are the first person in the family to go to university, have care responsibilities and are interested in  studying medicine, dentistry or law. Reach gives pupils support to reach these goals in the future through coaching sessions and give information about events to help pupils’ skill set.

LOLS is for senior pupils who are definitely interested in going to study at Higher Education level after school. It is delivered in school by post-graduate tutors who work with pupils on skills such as critical thinking, group working and presentation skills.

Putting the “You” into University is hosted by Heriott-Watt University. Putting the “You” into University gives our S2 pupils the opportunity to stay in Halls and go to lectures put on by lecturers so that the pupils can gain a greater understanding in to what University life is like.
